Raising the voice of farmers for climate action

RDC Climate Initiative

OVERVIEW

Uniting with Rural Research and Development Corporations (RDCs), we championed four cross-disciplinary teams to collaborate for climate change in agriculture and fisheries.

Tailoring our approach to suit their situation, we coached RDC teams to connect with end-users - to understand their obstacles and develop solutions that adequately address the climate crisis.

THE CHALLENGE

The Australian agriculture industry has addressed climate change in the past – but hasn't yet achieved the necessary impact. Previous initiatives have lacked focus, missing the importance of collaboration in conducting change. In losing the voice of end-users, much-needed dialogue was absent - and positive progress was stalled.

Australia’s Rural Research and Development Corporations (RDCs) have been driving agricultural innovation since 1989. Hoping to improve collaboration in complex challenges, they sought our support to engage participants - hearing all voices as they address climate change.

THE PROJECT

Alongside key stakeholders, our team brought the voice of end-users to the fore.

TOGETHER WE:

  • Designed and delivered a bespoke rapid accelerator program

  • Offered intensive in-session and coaching to four key teams

  • Established a collaborative network

  • Developed strategic content, including roadmaps, ecosystem maps and more

  • Implemented and contextualised strategic content through coaching sessions

  • Held wrap-up interviews to discuss learnings and improvements with key stakeholders

THE RESULT

Embracing collaboration, our program empowered all participants to raise their voices. Through the program, teams learned the importance of diverse voices: their value in solution development and success and their necessity in driving real change.

Our teams also developed a series of propositions for future investment, presented as a prospectus to the Agriculture Innovation Australia Board.

THE FUTURE

RDCs new concepts are currently under consideration for funding with Agriculture Innovation Australia.
