Evolving the SDG impact of WWF Australia's Impactio Platform

WWF Australia

OVERVIEW

WWF’s global Impactio platform is the first blockchain-based collaborative governance platform developed to curate, vet and fund social and environmental impact projects at scale. Originating from WWF’s Panda Labs, the platform seeks to align investors with SDG focused projects and ventures.

As the platform aged and its stakeholder ecosystem grew, WWF Australia engaged TGD in collaboration with PwC, to help the platform evolve with a focus on designing an impact performance measurement framework in line with WWF’s purpose and SDG investment goals.

THE CHALLENGE

WWF Australia built the Impactio platform to enable global collaboration to curate, support and deliver a portfolio of high-quality impactful solutions to social & environmental problems.

Using an ecosystem of digital technologies the Impactio platform runs innovation and impact challenges in partnership with influential organisations, to identify and improve high-value solutions, and share them with stakeholders who can unlock the required support to help them scale.

The Impactio platform has delivered great impact to date, but needed to adapt to its growing ecosystem and align with ever-evolving stakeholder and reporting needs.

THE PROJECT

We delivered an implementable strategy that anchored Impactio’s value proposition in the impact investing ecosystem and optimised its business model while developing critical performance indicators and a roadmap.

We worked closely with internal and external WWF stakeholders to ensure requirements and best practices were captured and translated into a forward plan that focused on scaling the impact of WWF-supported ventures.

TOGETHER WE:

Focused Impactio’s innovation while catering for different venture maturity, sectors and geographical differences to catalyse the impact investment sector and WWF’s role in it

Facilitated a co-design process to understand the value proposition, the desired future state for the platform and leverage user insights to improve the platform and validate its value proposition

Combined stakeholder insights with market analysis to highlight an optimal development strategy and agree on impact metrics aligned to global environmental goals and outcomes

THE RESULT

The Impactio global innovation review helped to reaffirm the value of the uniquely collaborative platform with donors, investors and social and environmental innovators. By developing a roadmap that emphasised data collation and globally endorsed impact and portfolio performance metrics the Impactio platform could demonstrate its relevance and ability to deliver results - positioning it above its competitors and attracting and retaining competitive funding and investor relationships.

Led by market insights, impact tracking and investment recommendations, WWF can significantly uplift the Impactio platform with agile business models that align with key investor expectations.
